What the F*&! is Cosmic Tape Music??

If you are wondering why the heck we started a private group called “Cosmic Tape Music Club” – then this video should help clear that up.

During the “Space Race” there was a lot of innovation around communication technology that found its way into electronic music and synthesizers. This made for an exciting time for music, art and technology. It also informed the themes of the music and sounds themselves.

Cosmic Tape Music is a global term that encompasses all of the worldwide pockets of music made from pre-recorded sound called things like music concrète, tape music, foley music, sound collage, electro-acoustic etc. Electronic music that was made using spliced tape rather than a sequencer. Music that is made using the studio and recordings as the main instrument. We highlight the people responsible for pioneering this music type.
