Marcia had planned to do a narration alongside the video, however, the computer had other ideas, so here is a description of what she is using, art techniques etc:
“I am now using a blending stump, which is a tightly rolled piece of paper, to blend in the coloured pencils, as well as Indian red coloured pencil. It is always best to use the side of the pencil when applying shading, as it can be applied much smoother. Then more lipstick red, soft peach and bright orange markers.
I rely a lot on markers for my sketch cards, particularly promarkers, as they blend really easily. There are a wide range of subtle, pastel colours, which I find really good for portrait work for realistic skin tones.
The only downside to these markers is that they can be quite juicy when blending, so sometimes they can bleed through to the back of thin cardstock. Another problem is that they are not refillable like Copics, and I go through them really quickly!
Starting on the eyes with buttercup yellow marker (Irony!). I love Darth Maul’s look, especially his eyes. He has such a distinctive style. Then, I am getting some watercolour pencil, scribbling it onto the masking tape I have on the edge of my drawing board off screen, and then wetting a fine detail brush (5/0) so that I can paint details with light hints of the watercolour pencil. Bit of black next for his pupils, and posca for the highlights.
I also used some red watercolour pencils for the skin, blending it with a wet brush, and more white pencil for highlights.”
