Today on our 2006 Nissan Xterra, we’re going to be taking a look at and installing the Tow Ready T-One vehicle wiring harness with 4-pull flat trailer connector, part number: 118525. Here’s what this wiring is going to look like once it’s installed on the vehicle. As you can see, we’ve got nice, easy access to it here. If we need to use it, we can just take that dust cover off of there and unhook it from the safety chain connection point, and we’ve got easy access for our trailer. Whenever we’re done using it, we can use that nice, handy dust cover to clip it back there so we’re ready to use it next time we need it. This wiring comes in a kit that’s going to give us direct plug and play access to the vehicle’s existing trailer wiring harness. What’s nice about that is you’re not going to have to do any cutting or splicing into the vehicle’s wiring system, but rather you’re just going to be plugging in the connections that are already there, which means that you’re not going to risk doing any harm to the vehicle’s electrical system. Overall, this kit is nice and easy to install, and it’s going to do a really good job of making sure that you can get that power to your trailers so that you don’t have to worry about the lights behind you. Here’s everything that’s going to come with our kit.
We’ve got our wiring harness portion with the 4-pull on it, and that’s going to plug in near the rear of the vehicle. Then we’ve got the wiring harness portion that’s going to go inside, and we’ve got these relays that are going to plug in over here. Then we’ve got some zip ties to help secure our extra wiring. We’ve got these foam pads that are going to help protect these relays from vibrations. Let’s show you how to install this wiring kit. First thing we’ll need to do is inside the passenger door here, we’ll need to remove this threshold, and it’s held on with pushpin fasteners.
You can take a flat head screwdriver, or if you’ve got a trim panel tool you can also use that. You just want to work your way along here and pop that up. Then you’ll pry outwards. As you can see, we’ve got some clips down here. Then that fastener, it goes into that location right there.
We can set that aside. Now what we need to do is remove this little interior kick panel here. It’s got this little fastener that just screws down into place. You can just take a short flat head screwdriver and begin to loosen that up. You can begin to pry outward on this panel. This just has a couple clip fasteners on the inside there that go right along here. Now we need to locate the 12-pin connector that we’ll be using.
There it is right there. It’s down on the backside of this little module right here. We’ll want to take our relays and plug them into the connectors that correspond to them. This brown relay is going to go into this orange-ish brown connector here. We want to make sure it goes all the way down and clicks to make sure it’s secure. Then on both of these white connectors, I’m going to put on the blue relays. You just want to make sure that they go all the way down where they click into place. Then I’ll take this foam tape. Going to help protect these relays from vibrations. Once we’ve got our relays wrapped up, we can take the connector at the other end and plug it into the connector that’s already on the vehicle. Then you want to make sure that clicks so that you know it’s secure and not going to come apart on you. With that secure, I can take these relays and find a good place to tuck them out of the way so that they’ll be safe. Then I can take a zip tie provided in the kit and secure it to some of the other wiring that’s already in here to help keep it tucked up out of the way. Clip the excess off that zip tie. Now I can begin replacing those panels. Then we can replace our threshold. Now underneath the back of the vehicle, I’ve gone ahead and removed the spare tire in order to give ourselves a little extra room to work and make it easier to see where we’ll be. We’re going to meet right over here, and this is the factory plug. Right now it’s just got a plug in the end of it so that nothing gets into this and damages the connection points inside this connector. Push down on that tab right there. If you have a hard time getting it out, you can use a screwdriver and pop it off from there. It’s just clipped in there. Then you can use a pair of needle nose pliers in order to pull t
