Today on our 2014 Jeep Cherokee, well be installing the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System, part number SM99251. With the fascia off, we can go ahead and install the box. Well use the predrilled holes. Now with the box mounted, its secured and its holding the weight but to take out any movement with the bottom because we cant get the predrilled holes into anything solid, were just going to take some zip ties, thread them together so they are long enough and then use that to hold it tight to the back of the bumper. Here is your switch. It must be mounted in this orientation.

Heres a screw provided to secure it.Next, were going to mount the air cylinder to the brake pedal and the anchor point will go to the firewall. The cable can be adjusted by going through the predrilled hole and the anchor point and then the set screw will tighten it down to secure it. Using the sandwich clamp, youll secure it to the brake pedal. Before we mount the cylinder and its in our way, well mount our anchor point first. The anchor point, well want to go directly to the sheet metal.

Were going to go ahead and pull the carpeting down and remove some of the firewall insulation. Just above the insulation we just cut out is a soft spot in the firewall, the protective covering, covering up a predrilled hole by the manufacturer in the firewall.Beyond that layer is a grommet, a manufacturers grommet that well be able to utilize to run our wires through the firewall. Note, in special applications, you many need to add a longer screw to your sandwich clamp to go around the brake pedal. Now inaudible 00:03:11 mounted and carpet laid back over the area where we mounted the anchor point, well go ahead and notch the carpeting around the table. Once thats complete, I can go ahead and make the cable adjustment as necessary and tighten it up.

Now we want our self tapper run all the way down. We didnt make it all the way through both layers of sheet metal. We either need to get a longer self tapper or install a nut and bolt to secure our anchor point.Once weve used our fastener to secure the anchor to the firewall and our air cylinder is secured to the brake pedal, well need to adjust the slack in the cable. We want approximately a 1/4 inch of slack available and we dont want it completely tight. Well go ahead and pull the excess slack through the anchor point making sure not to over tighten your set screw securing the cable.

Our wires here, well need to route through the grommet in the firewall that we pointed out earlier. To make it easier to route our wire, were going to use a pull wire or which can be stiff piece of cable wire or in this case, were going to use a piece of air tubing. To attach the two, well some black electrical tape. Ill go ahead and remove it from our pull wire.Next, were going to take our two-pole loop or remove one end. The brown wire will be our ground and the red wire will be the hot or power. Well need to add an extra length of gray wire thats supplied with the install kit to the red wire because were going to run it into the engine compartment and ultimately attach it to the blue wire on a breakaway switch. With our buck connector connected to the red wire side, Ill bring in the gray wire cable, strip it back and add to the other side of the buck connector. Once we make our connections, well then go ahead and wrap it up with some black electrical tape. The air line that Ive connected to the cylinder and go into the engine compartment along with the gray wire that we just attached to the red wire to make it longer so we can run it into the engine compartment. Well tape the two together and theyll follow the wire weve already ran. Now, weve got our vacuum line and gray wire run into the engine compartment. Well run it up to our controller box then we mount it behind the bumper. This will follow the wire that we ran into the engine compartment earlier. Then well go ahead and start to route our wiring. Keep in mind, were routing our wiring to stay away from any moving components such as steering or suspension or excessive heat such as exhaust. Well use the black zip ties provided with the install kit to secure the wiring as we go.Now well go ahead and secure our wiring in the engine compartment and then we could also wrap up the wire with the electrical loom provided with the install kit.
